Through four generations and 200 years of innovation, Montrose Rope & Sail have made products with the environment in mind.

Originally founded in 1789 by a rope and sail maker from Leith, the business served a very buoyant local fishing industry by manufacturing rope and hand sewn sails. James Paton took over the business in the early 1900s and to this day, the Paton family continue to prepare handcrafted products. Over the years, the company has grown with that very same passion and care to become one of the oldest and dynamic independent companies in Scotland.

A traditional company and family run business that guarantees a personal touch, they have embraced the 21st century. Having recently moved to custom built premises and invested in new cutting edge technology, they continue to design and produce handmade products for this century that are built to last.

Montrose Rope & Sail produce unique durable products that are developed and delivered worldwide for various markets. Their growing international reputation has seen products even turn up in the strangest of places like Kilimanjaro. Whether they are supplying one bag, 1000 bags or all weather protection for part of an oil rig, the care, service and pride never changes.
